About Adam Single
Southeast Queensland landscape artist capturing the essence of our region through watercolor painting and contemporary accessibility.
My Artistic Journey
Born and raised in Southeast Queensland, I have spent my life immersed in the ever-changing beauty of the Australian landscape. From the rolling hills of the Scenic Rim to the pristine coastlines of the Gold and Sunshine Coasts, this region has shaped not only my perspective but my artistic voice.
My journey as an artist began with childhood sketches of the native bushland behind my family home. What started as simple pencil drawings evolved into a lifelong passion for capturing the subtle interplay of light, shadow, and color that makes Queensland's landscapes so unique. These early explorations taught me to see beyond the surface, to notice the way morning mist clings to eucalyptus leaves or how the late afternoon sun transforms ordinary creek beds into ribbons of gold.
The transition from hobbyist to professional artist happened gradually, shaped by countless hours spent in the field and years of refining my technique. I discovered that each landscape has its own personality, its own story waiting to be told. My role became that of a translator, finding ways to capture not just the visual beauty of a place, but its emotional essence.
Today, I work primarily in watercolor, drawn to this medium for its ability to convey both the delicate transparency of morning mist over the ranges and the bold, saturated colors of a Queensland sunset. Each piece begins with extensive fieldwork – hiking through national parks, sitting by creek beds, and experiencing the landscape firsthand. This connection to place is fundamental to my work; you cannot paint what you do not know intimately.
Born in Southeast Queensland, I've dedicated my life to capturing the unique beauty of our regional landscapes through watercolor painting.
My artistic journey began with childhood sketches and evolved into a passion for translating the emotional essence of Queensland's diverse environments – from mountain ranges to coastlines.
Working primarily in watercolor, I spend extensive time in the field, hiking and experiencing landscapes firsthand before returning to the studio to create works that capture both visual beauty and emotional connection to place.
“Every landscape has a story – the challenge is learning to listen. My role isn't to impose my vision, but to translate the conversation between light, land, and weather into something others can hear.”
